Auto painting.

Peeling clearcoat, a mismatched panel and paint damage after a collision need different preparation. Restart can assess the affected finish, prior paint work and adjoining panels before defining the refinishing scope. Start with what changed and where you see it.

Start an online estimate

Bring up previous paint work, fading or peeling when you request an assessment.

The painted area follows the surface.

A small damaged area does not always mean a small painted area. Panel condition, the existing finish and the location of the repair help determine the scope.

Prepare the surface

Paint will not correct a dent or stabilize failing layers underneath it. The estimate should distinguish body work and surface preparation from applying the new finish.

Consider the color

The vehicle’s paint code is a starting reference, not the complete picture. Existing paint condition and the way metallic or pearl finishes catch the light also matter when evaluating the color.

Define the painted area

The refinishing plan may include blending into an adjoining panel. Ask which panels are being repaired, which are being refinished and why each is included.

Tell us what you see.

Show the whole panel and the problem area in ordinary daylight, and say if it looks different in sun or shade. Mention any earlier repaint or peeling. Phone photos locate the concern, but their lighting and screen color cannot establish a reliable color match or final painted area.

Details to share

  • The specific panel or panels affected
  • Fading, peeling, scratches or earlier repairs
  • Whether the concern changes in sun or shade

Questions for the estimate

  • Which preparation and body repairs are included?
  • Does the scope include adjoining panels?
  • What care instructions apply after refinishing?
Request a paint assessment

Before choosing the finish.

Does one damaged panel mean repainting the entire car?

Not necessarily. Localized repair may be appropriate, with refinishing or blending limited to the affected area and adjacent panels. A full repaint is a different scope; discuss it separately if that is your goal.

Can new paint simply cover peeling clearcoat?

Peeling layers need to be assessed and addressed during preparation. Putting new color over an unstable finish does not resolve the underlying problem, so the visible patch alone may understate the work involved.

When can I wash or wax newly painted panels?

Get the care instructions for the finish used on your vehicle at collection. Washing, polishing, waxing and protective coatings can have different waiting periods; do not rely on a single rule for every paint system.

Start with the affected panel.

Share a whole-panel view, a closer detail and any history of paint work in that area. Discuss what needs inspection before a finish plan is proposed.

Discuss my paint repair

This starts a preliminary inquiry. It does not confirm repair scope, final price, vehicle acceptance or an appointment.
